Upham Beach 8:45am:  Finally a little bit of surf to report, looks to be about knee high at Upham.  It has been a long time comming.  It should get a little bit bigger but I don’t expect anything epic at all from this storm, probably just some good little longboard waves.  It looks like it should hang around until the early part of the week.  If we go today I will give a report later today!  Check the cams before you go as well under the links page for surfing.

Costa Rica Report

Hola from rainy Costa Rica. Good trip so far surf wise however we are definately in the rainy season-tough roads, high water crossings, mud slides, sporadic power outages etc. Some of the breaks are riddled with Crocodiles w/ the rains and as luck would have it the day we arrived there was a shark attack (1st one in 30plus years). The victim had his calf bit off but he survived and was life flighted to San Jose for surgery. Why do I surf? Surf has been consistently overhead and super clean and we are right on the spot-for now. Check out www.rovercam.com for daily updates near where we are staying. Hope all is well at home and see you guys soon-Matt

Well, like Dolly (Unlike Fay) we had some good surf for an extended amount of time.  Hurricane Gustav surf showed up small on Saturday night and held through Tuesday afternoon.  It seemed like no surf really got to us until the storm center was about due west of us in the Gulf of Mexico.

With the storm reaching Category 3 strength south of us I thought we would be in for some overhead conditions but they never really got that big at Upham Beach.  Though there were some larger waves breaking out beyond the pass.  A report from Jorge Pagan in Bradenton was that surf did reach 1-2 feet overhead down there on Sunday afternoon but the biggest waves in St. Pete were probably in the chest high range.
